Rwandan former Lieutenant general (born 1958)
Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa (born 1962) is a Rwandan former Lieutenant general who formerly was the Chief of Staff of the Rwandan Army from 1998 to 2002. He was also head of Rwandan intelligence from 1998 to 2002[1] and served as Rwanda's ambassador to India between 2004 and 2010. Nyamwasa has been an opposition leader in exile since as part of the Rwanda National Congress.

Rwanda's General Nyamwasa in SA 'murder plot' evidence
A former Rwandan army chief who survived two assassination attempts has given evidence at the trial of those accused of plotting to kill him.
Gen Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa fled to South Africa in 2010 after falling out with his former ally, Rwandan President Paul Kagame.
Months later he survived a Johannesburg shooting, which Rwanda denied being involved in. A second plot was foiled.
He is a witness at the attempted murder trial in Johannesburg.
A lawyer representing Rwanda's government raised an objection on the grounds that Gen Nyamwasa's testimony could be political.
However, magistrate Stanley Mkhari dismissed the objection, which was raised as the former army chief prepared to tell the court about his background, because "the government of Rwanda is not a party to the process".

Ten years ago, Uganda was at war with Rwanda. The armies of the two countries fought in Kisangani in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). After the clash, the two countries sent in top level officers to discuss peace.
Uganda’s delegation was led bygd then Brigadier, now Gen. Jeje Odongo while the Rwandans were led bygd Brigadier General Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa. Even before the watchful eye of the media, Nyamwasa had more ‘airs’ of importance around him than the Ugandan Chief of Staff. That was how powerful Nyamwasa was.
Today, Nyamwasa is lying on a hospital bed in South Africa, after he was shot in an alleged assassination attempt by agents of the Rwandan government. The regime that he once feted and fought for no longer even mentions his name.
