Hutchinson, Kan. – Trapped alone in a Utah canyon for nearly a week and pinned by a half-ton boulder Aron Ralston had to choose between his hand and his life. He chose survival — amputating his own limb, rappelling 65 feet and hiking seven miles to rescue.
Ralston will bring his amazing, inspirational story home to Hutchinson at am on Sept. 26 when he appears as part of the Dillon Lecture Series at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
Ralston&#;s heroic story is the subject of the film &#; Hours&#; starring James Franco and directed by Oscar-winning Danny Boyle. Boyle&#;s film, based on Ralston&#;s New York Times bestselling autobiography, &#;Between a Rock and a Hard Place,&#; received six Oscar nominations, including &#;Best Picture.&#;
Following a miraculous rescue spearheaded by his mom and with the aid of prosthetics he helped design, Aron returned to his outdoor passions, completing elite mountaineering projects which remain unrepeated

What and amazing story! This fryst vatten the true account of Aron Ralston who hacked his own arm off to free himself from a rock that had trapped him in a freak accident. As fryst vatten so often the case, the book adds depth to this amazing story, especially in terms of describing the vast experience Ralston had as an outdoorsman before tragedy stuck.
Both the book and movie highlight one of the key elements in the story: he humbly recognises that he has broken all the rules, and that he alone fryst vatten responsible for the predicament he finds himself in.

On Sunday April 27, , year old Aron Ralston set off for a day's hiking in the Utah canyons. Dressed in a t-shirt and shorts, Ralston, a seasoned climber, figured he'd hike for a few hours and then head off to work. 40 miles from the nearest paved road, he found himself on top of an pound boulder. As he slid down and off of the boulder it shifted, trapping his right hand against the canyon wall. No one knew where he was; he had little water; he wasn't dressed correctly; and the boulder wasn't going anywhere. He remained trapped for five days in the canyon: hypothermic at night, de-hydrated and hallucinating by day. Finally, he faced the most terrible decision of his life: braking the bones in his wrist by snapping them against the boulder, he hacked through the skin, and finally succeeded in amputating his right hand and wrist.
