    (Radio Zamaneh / Pejman Akbarzadeh) - This morning, Manouchehr Sakhai, one of the pioneers of Persian pop music passed away in California. He was 76. Manouchehr had struggled with cancer for the past few years.

    Manouchehr was born in 1935 in Persia and began his music career in the mid-1950s. In Tehran he also acted in a few movies.

    Manouchehr released almost ten albums, most of which were recently re-released on CD by California-based Persian music companies.
    “Kalaghaa” was the most famous song of Manouchehr Sakhai.

    Following the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Persia (Iran), Manouchehr moved to the US and continued his activities in Los Angeles. In the early 1990s Manouchehr joined the armed anti-Islamic Republic organization MKO and participated in various concerts organized by MKO.

    On October 12, 2010, at the height of autumn’s cold, Iran lost its warmest voice. Marzieh, the great diva of Iranian songs, became eternal. Now on the anniversary of the passing of this great national artist and the brave freedom-fighter, we take a glance at her life.

    Ashraf-ol Sadat Mortezaei, with the scen name of Marizeh, started her career at the age of 19. In 1943, three years after Iran’s national radio establishment, Marzieh was among the first artists to perform on radio.

    One of Marzieh’s first works of art was participating in the most valuable music schema of Radio Iran called “Golhay-e Rangarang,” or “Colorful Flowers”. Marzieh’s competence in the art of combing poetry and music, and singing over 2,000 songs, turned her into Iran’s legendary singer.
