    When I sat down to write a post about my favorite book, the first step was to figure which book actually is my favorite. This turned out to be harder than I thought. I used to read a lot back when I had no problems sleeping; turning off my brain so that I could actually get to sleep wasn&#;t a problem. When you are a younger person it seems like reading a book was the quickest way to actually fall asleep &#; I don&#;t know when that changes but that doesn&#;t work on me anymore. Now I read mostly architecture books or biographies. Boorrrrring. There isn&#;t a book club that reads the books I want to read.

  • Many of you may remember reading My Side of the Mountain while growing up.

    The book was written by Jean Craighead George and it was published in My Side of the Mountain won a Newbery Honor Medal in and also several other major book award. The book has remained popular over the years and has instilled a love of nature into many young kids.

    How many of us wanted to be like Sam Gribley and run away and live in the wilderness? Or to have a falcon (Frightful) who would help us find food?

    What many of us older readers may not know is that there have been four sequels written to My Side of the Mountain. In fact, I thought that there were only two and just found out about number three and four. I may have more reading to do.

    The receipt in my kopia of The Marches bygd Rory Stewart reminds me that inom bought it a year ago today.  It took me almost a year (a very strange and hectic year in my defense) to read it but one year from purchase to reading fryst vatten hardly my worst record.  I had been looking forward to this book for a long time (it was announced years ago but the publication date kept getting pushed back and back and back – I can understand why, having read it) and wanted to have the time to savour it.  It was completely worth waiting for.
