@Duhon: inom think they were pretty close in height. Kareem looked 7’2” to me on the court and next to Magic and worthy etc so the 7’1 7/8 maybe 7’ was likely accurate for him at a point lunchtime or later. I’d say Sampson May have been 7’”

@Shane: I think he did similar to Joel Embiid lol. Probably measured in shoes maybe earlier in the day although back then it wasn’t as prevalent. inom can see him as a 7’ guy maybe even above out of bed and dipped to 7’ perhaps

Hard to find a good height comparison pic of Ralph with Kareem from their playing days, this photo is them from Click Here

@Canson inom think they just went with what Ralph wanted to be listed at. And then with Olajuwon being overlisted at 7 feet, they probably felt it made sense to keep them apart a fee inches. But Sampson was there a year sooner and I'm sure was already listed at 7'4" but I'm not sure.

All that said, do you think maybe Ralph had so

I think you're trying to infer too much from a single flawed piece of evidence.

Do you think Kobe is really 6'3?

He's not his listed 6'6. He's virtually the same height as D-Wade.

Geez. This pic of the two is taken with a wide angle lens so the figures get stretched towards the edges. It is taken close by a shorter man looking up and Kobe and Wade are tilting the other way.

Why don't you use a normal photo

How accurate are player's listed heights in college football and pro basketball? And are they measured with shoes on?

These are the sports I'm most interested in but I'd be interested to hear about other sports as well.

Regarding college football I go to games at a big football college frequently. The players generally seem to be listed an 1in, maybe a in above their actual height. If they're listed height includes shoes, that'd be more accurate. I'm 6ft 3in, and the guys listed at 6ft 4, even 6ft 5 often don't look any taller than me.

Never been to a pro basketball game but I watch a good amount on TV. Here, to me, there's a split. The shorter guys, say Steve Nash & Allen Iverson, don't look like they are as tall as listed. The taller players, say Dirk Nowitski & Amare Stoudemire, seem to be taller than listed. That might just be my own perception though.
