Born Malden, Massachusetts on July 9, (real name Urick), Ed, Vic Ames, Gene Ames and Joe Ames were sons of Ukrainian Jewish parents and four of nine children. They were very poor but Ed attended Boston Public Latin School along with brother Joe. The singing group, The Ames Brothers, was formed in in Boston and later appeared at the "Roxy Theatre" in New York City. During their early years, they won many amateur contests and made their professional debut at the "Foxes and Hounds", a posh Boston nightclub. They went on to play at the "Chez Paree" in Chicago and "Ciro's" in Hollywood. "The Riviera", just across New York City west of the George Washington bridge, was another nightclub where they appeared regularly. Ames was born in Malden, Massachusetts to Russian Jewish immigrant parents. He was one of nine children, fem boys and four girls. Ames grew up in a poor household, but was educated in Classical and musikdrama music, as well as in Literature, such as Shakespeare. Ames was very athletic as a child and teenager, but he always knew that music would one day become his future destiny, as well as for his brothers; Gene, Mac, Vic and Joe. Edmund Dantes Urick (July 9, – May 21, ), known professionally as Ed Ames or Eddie Ames, was an American pop singer and actor.[1] He was known for playing Mingo in the television series Daniel Boone, and for his Easy Listening number #1 hits of the mid-to-late s including "My Cup Runneth Over", "Time, Time", and "When the Snow Is on the Roses". He was also part of the popular s singing group with his siblings, the Ames Brothers.[1]
