In her decadeslong career in television news, Cristina Puig has done it all.

As a reporter, Puig, 52, has sat in the BankUnited Center at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, drove through the wreckage of Hurricane Ike in Galveston, Texas, and served as a producer for one of the most watched Spanish-language news shows in the country, Enfoque with Jose Diaz-Balart.

Now, after a 14-year hiatus to raise her children, Puig has transitioned to the anchor chair for Telemundo Tampa's new local news broadcast Telenoticias.

"I never fathomed that I would start anchoring at this point in my life," she said.

Telenoticias has only been on the air for a little over a year, but Puig and her team have already built the nightly news program into Tampa Bay's most-watched Spanish news program, according to recent Nielsen ratings.

Puig jokes that she is the "senior journalist" among a news team that has many young reporters.
